Meet the Candidate

Dedicated to Hinds County Since Day One

Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Monica F. Bradshaw hails from Utica, MS. She is the youngest of five children born to the late Mr. and Mrs. C.P. (Tell) and Norma Jean Lyons. She began her military career in 1988, enlisting in the United States Army Reserves as an 88M, Heavy Vehicle Operator. In 1991, during her senior year of college, she was activated with the 296th Transportation Company, Brookhaven, MS, deploying in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. She held the rank of Sergeant. In 1992, she was commissioned in the Military Intelligence Corps from Alcorn State University (ASU), Lorman, MS, also receiving a B.A. in Political Science. In 2001, she obtained a Master of Arts Degree in Public Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In addition to Operation Desert Shield & Desert Storm, she has two tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. On June 30, 2018, she retired from active duty with 30 years of military service.

LTC (R) Bradshaw is active in her community. She is the founder and CEO of Lyonses Endowment Coalition (L.E.C.), a nonprofit organization that serves youth and senior citizens specifically in rural Hinds County. She has led several community events to include water giveaways, Town Halls with elected officials and Neighborhood Trash Clean-up. In 2019, she organized a Psalm Sunday/Pre-Easter Egg Hunt event in the Town of Utica, bringing together community churches. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was the voice of her community and coordinated a mobile testing unit and subsequently vaccinations for seniors and disabled community members. She also organized and led a food giveaway, which packaged and donated over 300 bags of groceries to her community. Additionally, she serves as Administrative Assistant and Choir President at her church, Greater Zion Travelers M.B. Church, Utica, MS. From 2022-2025, she served as the first president of the ASU Army R.O.T.C Alumni Association. She is the co-founder of the Rural Hinds County Community Association (RHCCA). In 2025, she was elected to the Reedtown Water Association Board of Trustees. She is an active member of the Clinton (MS) Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta, Inc.
